EAGLE, ID – Eagle High had three District Champion teams as the Mustang Boys captured the District title Friday night after moving indoors to the Eagle Tennis Center due to rain.
Senior Adam Tzeng and freshman Alec Tzeng captured the Boys doubles title first with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Timberline’s Antonio Vela and Elric Mack. Senior Kennidi Amorebieta and freshman Oliver Kempel followed suit with a 7-6(2), 6-2 championship victory over Rocky Mountain’s E.J. Stolmeijer and Rachel Hall to take the Mixed Doubles title. Freshman Kyle Garner capped off the night with a 7-6(2), 6-2 victory of his own over Boise’s Nicholas Byrne giving Garner a 3-0 record over Byrne for the season and the Boys Singles title.
Sophomore Brooke Beil captured Eagle’s 12th individual spot into State with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kuna’s Hannah Calley. The Eagle Boys team captured the District title with 68 points over Boise and Timberline who scored 48 points each. The Mustang Girls finished third at Districts with 46 points under Timberline with 58 points and Capital with 56 points.
The Mustangs will compete at the State Championship May 18-19 at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club, Borah High School and Bishop Kelly High School. Match play will be all day Friday and all day Saturday.
